CKay has been in the news as of late, and it’s for a lot of good things.
The new Ckay these days brings only good tidings as the young singer has transcended and indeed transformed from up-and-coming artist to the new school afrobeat poster boy.
Since his 2019 hit, “Love Nwantiti” went viral and became a global hit- by bursting into the Billboard Hot 100, he has been the talk of the town. Rightfully so. The only other song from recent time to have achieved such a feat is Wizkid‘s “Essence” with Tems. On which note, Ckay lays claim to a top spot that is only reserved for big guys like Wizkid.
Ckay might look like an overnight success, but the guy isn’t a fluke at all. The guy’s not only got the talent but he’s also got the potential to create some iconic stuff that will go down in history.
With his captivating spiritual sound that has been likened to that of Rema, Ckay just needs to prove that he’s got this, and he’s not just some one-hit-wonder that’s going away after this heat.
Ckay‘s new single, “Emiliana” is the first song of that post-Love Nwantiti campaign that will ultimately determine what Ckay’s fate’s going to be.
The laid-back afrobeat track has the same instrumental pattern as “Love Nwantiti” and I believe it would be right to say the guy’s trying to remake his only hit. If I said that, it’d sound like I’m trashing him, but actually based on what this song is, it’s the opposite.
“Emiliana” probably won’t overturn Love Nwantiti’s records, and become the next global afrobeats record. Still, it is a considerable amount of progress from what he did on his “Boyfriend” EP earlier this year. The song simply has the right things in the right places. Ckay is definitely not a fluke.
